Villa Godthem is a unique merchant's villa and former private residence, completed in 1874. It was built as a gift by devoted admirers for the renowned opera singer Carl Johan Uddman.
The story goes that the portly Uddman, in an unusual turn, walked home from the Opera one evening, and upon entering the hallway exclaimed breathlessly:
"I have WALKED home!"
Hence the name. Since the Stockholm Exhibition of 1897, Villa Godthem has served as a restaurant — welcoming guests for business lunches, dates, weekend dinners and weddings for over a century.
For you and your party seeking a more private setting, our private dining room is available to book. Accommodating up to 34 guests, it offers a unique atmosphere surrounded by the historic walls of the Grotthandlar Villa.

Our garden is a lush oasis in the heart of Djurgården, where beautiful stone paving and flourishing greenery create an inviting setting. Here, you and your guests can relax in our comfortable lounge furniture and enjoy the atmosphere beneath the open sky.
As the evening cools, heaters and blankets are available to ensure you remain comfortable while making the most of this tranquil outdoor space.
Hopefully the snow crunches underfoot, the fire is burning and the scent of mulled wine drifts through the old salons. Inside the merchant's villa, a classic Swedish Christmas buffet is laid out.
The Christmas food is carefully prepared according to classic recipes and with traditional ingredients — just as it has tasted on Djurgården for over a century.
